It’s Memorial Day weekend and I am honoring the three cousins that I know gave their life for their country. I know I don’t have a ton of information on them but I want to honor their sacrifice!
Today, I honor my cousin Max Ray Spangler. Max was only 18 years old when he paid the ultimate sacrifice for his country. He was a SP4 in B Co., 5TH BN, 7TH CAVALRY, 1ST CAV DIV serving in Quang Nam, South Vietnam. On January 11, 1968 he was wounded in action by gun or small arms fire. On January 12, 1968 he succumbed to those injuries.
Max served on helicopter crews flying into battle zones to evacuate the wounded. An honorable job for an honorable person!
I salute your sacrifice and count myself worthy to not only call you my cousin but also a fellow brother in arms, as I see you also served in the 7TH CAV – Garry Owen. I didn’t serve in combat but did serve as part of the border patrol between East and West Germany!
You will always be remembered for your sacrifice!
