Today I would like to dedicate this post to the memory of one of my cousins who gave his life for his country. That is, after all, what the meaning of Memorial Day is, right?
Hubbard Barnes Stevenson, Jr. was born approximately 1923. He was KIA (Killed In Action) on August 23, 1943 when his ship was sank. Unfortunately, I don’t have a ton of information about him.
I’d love to learn more about him, discover pictures, learn what ship he was on, and perhaps visit Battery Park in New York to see the memorials to the Navy dead.
I can only imagine how it would have been to have died in such a way. I am thankful today for the actions of my cousin, who fought bravely and gave his life for freedom for us all.
Though I never knew him, he will always hold a special place in my heart for the sacrifice he has made!
