I just wanted to post a quick update to share some interesting news with my family today. The news is that I was able to find a little something more on Esther (Spangler) Daniel yesterday. All I’ve ever known about Esther was that she was David Franklin Spangler’s oldest daughter. I had managed to get a death certificate from Family Search a while back and that helped me to get her birth date and death date and it was pretty reliable because it was her sister who provided it and you know sisters know each other!
Sunday I finally created a Find A Grave memorial for her and requested a photo of her tombstone. Yesterday I got an email saying that if I could call Sparkman-Hillcrest and get her exact location (plot, space) then they would be glad to fulfill my request. I called, left a message on the volunteer’s page and then went to work. Last night I came home to several email messages from this volunteer. The first was that the request had been fulfilled. The second one asked me to create a memorial for her husband and she would add the picture of his stone also.
I knew from Dorothy’s research that Esther had married a Jim Daniel but I could never figure out why he wasn’t mentioned on her death certificate. I had just assumed he died before her or perhaps they had divorced. As I said, I didn’t know anything. Now I have a picture of Esther’s tombstone with her husband buried beside her four years later. I don’t have much more than that but I at least have something to go on now. I have a birth year and death year for Jim and I know that his middle initial is R.
It’s strange the little things that get us researchers going!
So I guess my next step will be to go on a hunt for an obituary. I’d like to find one for Esther and one for Jim. Hopefully that won’t be to hard to do from North Carolina! Any volunteers in Dallas?
That’s it for today! It’s not the “bombshell” that some always look for but I am always excited to find out information that was missing. For those of you who are saying “I already knew that!” I only have one thing to say – Shame On You For Not Sharing!
Hope you have a great day,
