I received some unfortunate news tonight when I logged in to check my news feed for my blogs. There was a pop-up stating that Google Reader will be closing July 1, 2013! What a bummer!
I’ve used Reader for several years now to read my favorite blogs. I’ve enjoyed having the ability to separate each post into different categories and read them at my leisure. It’s a very important tool for me and I’m pretty sure that there are quite a few others who enjoy it.
From reading some other blog posts, it seems like Google Reader is really trending on Twitter at this moment. There are quite a few folks upset and quite a few have started petitions to get Google to rethink their decision.
Will it work?
Well, we have a few months to find out. In the meantime I have to start thinking of a different way of obtaining my feeds. I could always use my Outlook to grab them but that wouldn’t work too well if I were away from home. I’ve researched and found several that I may try. Lifehacker has a pretty good list of suggestions, if you are interested. I’m really not in that big of a hurry! I think I have plenty of time to figure out what I am going to do. Who knows, perhaps the petitions will work.
We’ll just have to wait for a bit and see what is going to happen!
Have a great day,
Ken
