As I prepare for what I hope will be a very fruitful journey, I believe it would be prudent to take the time to answer a question that will obviously come up along the way.
“Why do all this? What’s in it for you?”
Answering this question is not simple. Most folks think that I am just interested in seeing how far back I can trace my family roots. Some think it is just to be able to find “famous” people in our line. There are still others who just think I am plum crazy! 
When I first started this journey over 12 years ago I would have answered it like this:
I do genealogy to leave a little something for my children. I want them to know where they came from and what makes them who they are!
In the 12 years of researching, my answer has changed. My children are all grown up now! My youngest just graduated last year. As they move on to college and having families of their own I know that they are very capable of finding out who and what they are. I can take pride in knowing that I have shared many stories with them about their ancestors and I hope that someday they will share those stories with their children also.
So why continue to do this? Well, quite simply, because it is something I enjoy doing. The journey isn’t complete yet. So many stories have not come to full fruition. There are so many more secrets to unlock. I really enjoyed researching my roots and I miss it very much. Moving to North Carolina almost 3 years ago has been a very hard thing. Starting completely over and not knowing anyone around you is hard to do but we have done it. Now, as things begin to settle down somewhat, I find my attention turning back to what I enjoy doing.
So, as I start this journey, I would like to invite you along. Friends, family or anyone else who may be interested are certainly welcome to come along with me.
This will be a slow and tedious journey. Sometimes there will be ups and there will probably be a lot of lows but the final outcome will be worth it all. I’ve got lots of things to unpack and share with my family. I also have many things I hope to accomplish by sharing my info on my website and on my blog. It won’t be a daily thing but I will try to post as often as I can.
Oh what fun it will be!
