Earlier this week I was able to find my 5th-great-grandfather’s Revolutionary War pension file. I downloaded all 56 pages of it from Footnote and today I decided it was time to try to look through it all!
At first glance there is a lot of information to gather from here. I found what appears to be a page from a Bible that has my 4th-great-grandfather and all of his children listed as well as the marriage details for him and his wife. Unfortunately most of the info on his wife, besides the name, are not very visible!
I wanted to make an easier way for me to be able to read this as it is hard to read in its present state. I figured I would transcribe each page and have a .doc version of it as well.
Today, on the second page, I have already encountered a problem. Most of the page I can figure out but there is one little section that I don’t understand. So, I am turning to my readers for help.
Would anyone be willing to take a look at this clip from the problem section and tell me what you think it says? Here is the clip:
I have figured out all the way to “in regard to my Revolutionary” but I can’t figure out what is said afterwards. I’m thinking it might say “pension or services” but I am just not sure. Also, what is up with the next line. There is a date but I can’t make out the word before it.
I’m sorry to ask for help but doing the pension files is something new to me. You’d think after 11 years of research that it is about time to start looking at them but I never thought I would see them at all.
Anyways, feel free to comment or email me if you would like. I’ll leave this section blank and transcribe the rest for now.
Have a wonderful day,
