This is the obituary for my cousin, Chauncey Ryan Mays. I posted about him earlier this week. I’ve learned a lot while reading all the stories and watching the videos I have been able to see. I plan on posting more about what I learned early next week.

Staff Sgt. Chauncy Mays
Staff Sgt. Chauncy Ryan Mays was killed in action (KIA) on Feb. 28, 2011, in Tangy, Afghanistan.
Staff Sgt. Chauncy Mays was born Dec. 7, 1985, to Tommy Pierce Mays and Alyson Dawn Rodgers. He was a 2004 graduate of Chapel Hill High School in Titus County.
Staff Sgt. Chauncy Mays entered the U.S. Army on June 17, 2004. He served in the 705th Ordnance Company, 184th EOD Battalion, Fort Polk, La., where he served as the EOD team leader.
Staff Sgt. Chauncy Ryan Mays is survived by his wife, Mrs. Kathy Mays; two daughters, Kiley Mays and Chesnee Mays; a brother, Cheyenne Mays; sisters Amanda Tenbrook, Stephanie Ray and Nikki Ray; his father, Tommy Mays; mother Alyson Dawn Rodgers; grandparents Jerry and Debbie Mays, B.J. and Thelma Boyd, Fred and Tina Overman, MawMaw Wanda, and Barbara Cook; great-grandparents Fred and Mavis Overman; his mother and father-in-law, Russell and Rhonda Carpenter; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Friday at Lake Fork Baptist Church, 9483 W. FM 515 Alba, Texas 75410-2687.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Beaty Funeral Home Of Winnsboro. Interment will be at Harmony Cemetery in Hopkins County.
