March 7 — Share a favorite recipe from your mother or grandmother’s kitchen. Why is this dish your favorite? If you don’t have one that’s been passed down, describe a favorite holiday or other meal you shared with your family.
I know this post is a couple of days late but at least I am posting!
I didn’t have any recipes passed down to me so I asked my wife to contribute on this one. I had to wait for her to get the recipe written down and this morning I found it laying on my desk. So, without any further delay, here is a recipe that has been handed down through my wife’s family for a couple of generations. It’s now a part of my family and I love it!
- 5 heaping tablespoons of flour
- 4 heaping tablespoons of cocoa
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1/2 pan water (I’m assuming that this is about 2 cups!)
Mix flour, cocoa, and sugar together until most lumps are out. Add water and cook until thick.
Serve over biscuits and butter.
The first time my wife made this I was like “Chocolate Gravy, what the heck is that?” Now, 23 years later, when my wife says she’s making chocolate gravy I am sure to come running.
I know it sounds weird but it is really pretty awesome. We will have some biscuits and butter, pour the gravy over them and then have a couple sausage patties or pieces of bacon to the side and you’ve got an awesome breakfast!
Have you heard of chocolate gravy before this?
