A day late but late is better than never!
March 6 — Describe an heirloom you may have inherited from a female ancestor (wedding ring or other jewelry, china, clothing, etc.) If you don’t have any, then write about a specific object you remember from your mother or grandmother, or aunt (a scarf, a hat, cooking utensil, furniture, etc.)
Well, this one is one that I don’t have a lot to write about!
Being the 5th of 6 children and the youngest boy, my chances of having something handed down to me are slim!
Don’t get me wrong, I would hope that being the genealogy and history buff in the family should make folks think about me. Alas, I don’t know that this will ever happen.
So, with that in mind, maybe I should post what I would like to see passed down to me!
First off, I would love to have the flag that was given to my mother when my dad was buried. I don’t have anything of my dad’s to remember him by and this is one thing I would always treasure and pass down to my children and teach them to pass it along!
There are others. When my Aunt Rae passed away I was SO wishing that I could have access to the trunk of pictures that she had. Of course, that never, and will never, happen. It’s sad to see a treasure like that taken away and put away to be forgotten!
When my Aunt Juanita passed away, I would have loved to be able to get some of the historical things she had. The pictures, the old records (not LPs) that she had, and countless other things. These aren’t things that I wanted. I would have loved to have scanned them all!
I recently learned of a distant cousin who was buried in Wisconsin with the family Bible that was passed down to him. It had all the Forbes information in it for several generations! Now this is something I would have loved to have. Is there a law against exhuming him?
I know the chances of having any of these things is slim to none, but it can’t hurt dreaming, can it?
Have a great day everyone!
