March 5 — How did they meet? You’ve documented marriages, now, go back a bit. Do you know the story of how your parents met? Your grandparents?
I don’t really know how any of my grandparents met. Sorry about that one.
I don’t know the full story behind how my parents met but here is what I can remember. My Dad and my (soon to be) Uncle Timber met while in Okinawa in the U. S. Army. They became pretty good buddies and, after leaving the military, my Dad went to meet him. Dad lived in Detroit, Texas and Uncle Timber lived in Marshall, Texas (or thereabouts) so it was about a 100 mile drive. Needless to say, my Dad fell in love with Timber’s sister, and the visits become more and more often. From his DD214 Form, my Dad was released around Jan. 1953 and he married my mother in June 1953.
They were together for 47 years before cancer took my Dad away from my Mom! Theirs may not have been the love that dreams are made of but theirs was, to them, everything they needed. Here’s one of the earliest pictures I could find of them:
Miss you Daddy and I love you Mom!
