March 4 — Do you have marriage records for your grandparents or great-grandparents? Write a post about where they were married and when. Any family stories about the wedding day? Post a photo too if you have one.
I have a marriage license for my paternal great-grandparents on my Gamble side. It’s for William Henry Gamble and Abigail Mae (Miller) Weeks. I don’t know a whole lot about them because I haven’t been able to really hook up with a lot of my Gamble relatives.
On the flip-side, I am so glad that I finally was able to find the marriage license for my maternal grandparents, George Charles Forbes and Winnie Ida Stevenson! There was a time I thought I was never going to find it but I finally figured out where to search and, thanks to a RAOGK volunteer, I was able to get a copy of it! They were married in Shreveport, Louisiana on Jan.31, 1922!
As you might be able to guess, there aren’t a lot of stories about the marriages of my grandparents. It was just another day, I guess! I have still not been able to find a marriage license (or any record) of my paternal grandparents, David Franklin Spangler & Ora Elizabeth Gamble. I’m sure it’s around somewhere, I just haven’t been able to find it!
I don’t have any wedding photos of my paternal grandparents but I do have a photo of my maternal grandparents that was taken very close to the time of their wedding. Here it is:
Come to think of it, I do have one more photo I would like to share with you all. It’s a photo of my maternal great-grandparents, Archibald Edelbert Forbes and Adelaide Eliza Beal. Supposedly, this was taken on their wedding day. It’s old and dark but I’ll share it with you all nonetheless!
Thanks for taking the time to stop by today! I hope you enjoyed it!
