It’s been a little over a month now since I decided to start trying to organize my digital photos. I still have a long way to go but I am proud to say that I am slowly but surely making progress!
My original tally was 37,763 photos which took up 39GB of space on my Photo partition. To think I would complete it all in one month would be very far-fetched, to say the least. I can’t say exactly how many photos I have left but I can say that I have brought the total disk space used down to 24.5GB! That’s a big difference!
I have finally gotten everything divided into separate folders. There are 6 main folders and they consist of the following:
- Church Friends
- Ken’s Family
- Trina’s Family
- Zoo Pics
These may not make much sense to you all but they do to me. I have so many photos of friends from when I went to the Greater Apostolic Tabernacle in Balch Springs, Texas. That’s why there is a folder for just friends. These folks have played a huge part in my life! I also have a ton of photos from different zoos we have visited during the years. We always took the time to take the kids to visit the zoo at least once a year, sometimes more than that. My bad is that I didn’t label each picture so I have to figure out which ones are the Tyler Zoo, Fort Worth Zoo, Dallas Zoo or even the Memphis Zoo! Then I have to figure out which year we were at each one! Shame on me!
The main folders are Trina’s Family and Ken’s Family. Under each of these they are broken down further, by using the 4 main surnames for each of us and by Immediate Family.
I continued to break them down further until I was able to start organizing easier. Doing everything this way made things go a lot smoother. I couldn’t believe how many doubles, triples, etc… that I had of each photo. I am still trying to sort all of that out!
So, to sum it all up, I have made quite a bit of progress. I know I have taken on more projects here recently but they have not deterred me from this project. If anything, they have helped me. Going through all these photos can sometimes become tedious and boring! Having something else to jump over to to stop the boredom helps tremendously.
So, that’s where I am at. I am slowly but surely renaming the files to fit my naming scheme and soon will be able to start seeing enough progress that I might be able to say how many photos are left. I don’t want to start moving them out of their subfolders until I feel comfortable with it.
I’ll post another update in the next month or so.
Thanks for taking the time to visit.
