I have contemplated joining the “52 Weeks of Personal Genealogy and History” series for a while now. I’ve been too busy with things that really didn’t matter and, now that I have some more time on my hands, I thought it would be a great time to join in!
This weeks topic is “Week 6: Radio and Television. What was your favorite radio or television show from your childhood? What was the program about and who was in it?”
I’ll go with my first instinct on this one. Strangely, I don’t have a lot of things pop to my mind because we basically watched what Mom and Dad wanted to watch. There was a small space on weekdays that the television was available for me to watch. While Mom was preparing supper and Dad hadn’t gotten home from work yet, I was able to watch a series called “Lost In Space”.
At the time I was really intrigued by it. I’ve always been kind of a “Sci-Fi Geek” of sorts. Perhaps this is the series that started my interest in that. Though it may seem sort of strange in todays world of big bangs and hi-tech, in 1968 this was very cool for a 6 year old kid! Robots, aliens, outer space, lasers and all the other gadgets they came up with were all cool!
Unfortunately, the folks in Hollywood had to try to remake this into a movie and I was very disappointed with what they had to offer. The series was a welcome distraction to me and it was something I could relate to as I felt that Will Robinson and I had much in common. How strange that today my closest friends seem to be courtesy of a computer (think robot).
Oh well, I’ll not complain. I may only be a stranger on this planet but I am enjoying my stay!
Here’s an episode from Hulu:
I hope you enjoyed my first post in this series. Hopefully I can catch up the 5 posts I missed prior to this one!
Have a wonderful weekend,
