It’s late here but I still want to get an update for everyone! I’m only able to relay information that has been given to me today. I’m at home with the girls, getting ready to go back to work tomorrow.
For those not on Facebook or not checking the group Prayers for Isaiah David, here is what Stephanie posted this morning:
Thank you all for everything. I think the doctors have finally figured out the right dose for Isaiahs seizures because they have now stopped. Isaiah is on 3 antibiotics for the infection in his spinal fluid, and this morning the doctors said it is going down. After prayers from all of you and us, Isaiah’s 5 day temp of 104 abruptly stopped this morning. He may have surgery in the morning to place the shunt on the left side if he still has pathogens in his brain, but we will know tonite. I know he will pull through just fine and the breathing tube will only be temporary. Thank you all for being with us every step of the way, we love you all.
I got the word tonight from my wife that the surgery will indeed be done tomorrow. They have already drilled 2 holes in his skull and now will do another to try to get the drainage tube in a spot where they will be able to combat the infection better, at least that is how I understand it. I know it sounds bad but I wish they would figure out what they are doing and quit drilling all these new holes!
Anyways, Isaiah did have a good day today. He’s still giggling and smiling when you take the time to play with him. He doesn’t have a lot of strength right now so he just kind of lies there and can’t hardly move his head at all! But he’s still a fighter! It was nice to see him playing and laughing with us yesterday and it is nice to know he is still doing so today!
I was also told today that they have changed the rules for visitors. Now, if you visit, you have to see the nurse and she will make sure you are scrubbed up and disinfected correctly before entering the room. I think this is a great idea as it is vital that we get this infection under control! The quicker this is done the quicker they can proceed with the other things that need to be done!
We still covet your prayers and appreciate all that everyone has done to help!
One last thing, if you have a desire to send Isaiah a card or whatever, we have an address for you. I know some have expressed a desire to send him cards and we didn’t know how to go about it but this is how it works. You send it to the hospital with the patient’s name and room number and they will ensure that he gets it! Here is the address:
Duke Hospital North
Durham, NC 27710
Thanks again for all your prayers and support,
