Tell Me Thursday … on Saturday!

OK, so I’m a day late and a dollar short, or however that goes! :-) At least I am posting a reply to my Wordless Wednesday!

I wanted to post the significance of this picture to me. Pease Cemetery is located in Onondaga County, New York. I found out about it early on in my research (around 2001) and discovered that my 3rd-Great-Grandfather, John Jacob Forbes, was buried there. Living in Texas I wondered if I would ever get a picture of the stone, if it even existed.

I then happened upon the Ramdom Acts of Genealogical Kindness site. I posted a request and didn’t hear anything back. Finally, about 2 months later, a man wrote and said he was going to be traveling in that area and would see what he could find.

About a week later he sent me this picture plus a picture of John Jacob Forbes’ tombstone. It was in very poor shape but it was still somewhat legible. It helped me confirm his birth date I had and it helped me to start piecing together more of my Forbes’ history. All from a tiny posting on a site built around kindness.

Oh, by the way, that stone right under the sign? That is the stone of my 3rd-Great Grandfather! Awesome, huh?

Have a great weekend!

Ken
