This is the second entry in my attempt to show how my dad really loved dirt track racing. I’ve been looking through some of my old pictures and I am amazed that I don’t have more than I do. However, I have enough to show off!
Let me start with a picture that I ran across the other day that shows off “The Tin Can” a little better. I had forgotten about the dual tires on the back! So, check this out:
Quite a work of beauty, isn’t it? That’s one car my dad always enjoyed talking about!
Also, another picture that I found after the last post was one that shows that the 2nd picture of my dad was probably with Jerry Wayne’s car. Here’s the other picture:

So, with that update let me tell you a little more about dad’s love for racing. I’m not sure exactly how or when but eventually dad began to drift away from Paris and stay closer to home. He hooked up with a man named Eddie Scott and began to go to Thunderbird Speedway in Crandall, Texas. I remember a little more about Crandall because I was a little older by now. I remember how much fun Dad & Eddie and the pit crew would have around the track. They terrorized the policemen there! I remember them sneaking up behind them and stealing their gun out of their holster. They were really rowdy back then. However, they made a pretty good team. They had some pretty nice looking cars and they did win quite a few races. Unfortunately, I don’t have many pictures of the cars that Dad & Eddie had but I do have the one. If you notice the number has changed from 38 to 11. I’m not sure of why that happened but it worked.
(As an aside, I really enjoy the picture above. It’s the backyard of the house I grew up in. The window you see is to my bedroom, my dog Rocky is in the picture and I see the two pear trees on the side of the house that I had so much fun with. I really enjoyed those pear preserves!)
Well, that is it for today. I will have more later. This could turn into a long series because I also have my brother’s racing at Crandall and even I took a little shot at it for a while!
Have a great day everyone!
