An Update On SnapFish

Recently, I wrote a post about getting serious about preserving the items I have been entrusted with. In that post I mentioned I was trying a site called SnapFish. I thought it would be to my advantage to try out an on-line photo site instead of spending so much money on ink and photo paper. Today, I’d like to post how things are going!

My first experience with SnapFish was easy enough. It’s pretty straight forward. I like that it has the ability to upload a whole folder of files quickly and effortlessly. I like the idea of being able to make separate albums and then being able to share certain albums with family while keeping others private. I like the ability to have your photos used for mugs, calendars, etc …
There are a lot of things to like so far about SnapFish.

My first order was good. I uploaded several photos (41) and decided I wanted to get prints of them. I placed the order and noticed that it had an option to pick them up locally if I wanted. Well, I was anxious to see what that would be like so I placed the order and said I would pick it up at Walgreen’s. The only thing I didn’t like was that the local pickup service was 19 cents per print as compared to the 12 cents per print through mail. Of course, the convenience was that I was able to pick them up after an hour! I was OK with it after seeing the prints. So, my first experience was actually with Walgreen’s development labs, not SnapFish. It was nice and convenient and $8.43 for 41 prints was not too bad, in my opinion.

The second experience was when I uploaded another 78 pictures and decided to try the mail service this time. This time I was able to use the 20 free prints I had for signing up and the 20 free prints for my sister signing up. With the cost of 78 prints minus the 40 free and add shipping, my total came up to $5.62. Not bad at all. Even without the free prints the total would have only been just over $10. So, to me, the prices are reasonable but what about the service?

I placed my order on Tuesday. The normal time to receive is 3-5 business days plus the time to develop them. I received a confirmation that the order was finished at about 1 a.m. on the following day. I received the pictures on the following Monday. So, that would be just about 3 business days since there was a weekend involved. Not bad timing! But what about the quality of the prints?

Well, I must say I was pleasantly surprised! The prints were not actually 4×6 because I had opted for the digital camera size which is just a tad smaller. This made it possible for the pictures to be done with very little cropping, if any. The colors were great and the paper used is good quality. I was impressed! So far, I have had 119 prints through SnapFish and was only unhappy with 1 because it cropped out part of our old dog! I think it is looking pretty good.

With the influx of new materials I have recently acquired, I will be using SnapFish quite a bit more and should be able to give a more in depth look at it later, but for now the initial opinion is that SnapFish is a keeper, at least for me!
