Well, today I wanted to let everyone in on my secret. Ssshh! Don’t let everyone know!
No, this is not something everyone will go crazy over but it is something that I thought was neat. I just wanted to share a tool that I use to find some of my living relatives that I have lost or never even met! It’s called MySpace, that’s right, the evil empire of MySpace.
It’s been about a year or so ago that I decided to create an account at MySpace. I just wanted to join it because my sister kept bugging me saying I needed to do it. I’ve since created one for my wife, my son and my two daughters.
So, how do I use this for genealogy? To be honest, I never considered doing anything like that but then I was bored one night and started just typing in names into the search box. I was very surprised when I started to actually find people on MySpace who I hadn’t seen in ages or who I have never seen before. In some cases, I was able to reconnect with old cousins because I found their child’s site. I was even able to find my uncle’s long lost half-brother and now all my mom’s siblings are able to talk with him.
Recently I was able to reconnect with a niece that I have seen only once in the last 20 years. I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that she lives only 40 or 50 miles away from me. It’s been a lot of fun letting all the family in on this.
Anyways, I wanted to pass this on as my little secret I use to find some of my living relatives.
Do you have a secret you would like to share? I know that everyone else in the blogosphere is a lot more seasoned than I am and you would probably blow me away with all of your ideas.
Have a great week everyone!
